What is the Matrix?
It is a metaphor for the world we live in today
In the Classic George Orwell tradition

Purchase 1999 movie The Matrix

NEO's ROOM NUMBER: 101
In 1984, George Orwell, room 101
was the room of 2 + 2 = 5
MORPHEUS Have you ever had a dream, Neo, that you were so sure was real? What if you were unable to wake from that dream, Neo? How would you know the difference between the dream world and the real world?
MORPHEUS The Matrix is everywhere, it's all around us, here even in this room. You can see it out your window, or on your television. You feel it when you go to work, or go to church or pay your taxes. It is the world that has been pulled over your eyes to blind you from the truth.

NEO What truth?

MORPHEUS That you are a slave, Neo. That you, like everyone else, was born into bondage... ... kept inside a prison that you cannot smell, taste, or touch. A prison for your mind.

MORPHEUS The Matrix is a system Neo. That system is our enemy. When you're inside, you look around, what do you see: Business men, teachers, lawyers, carpenters. The very minds of the people we are trying to save...These people are still a part of that system, and that makes them our enemy... many of them are so hopelessly dependant on that system, that they will fight to protect it.

AGENT SMITH I'd like to share a revelation that I've had during my time here. It came to me when I tried to classify your species. I've realized that you are not actually mammals. Every mammal on this planet instinctively develops a natural equilibrium with the surrounding environment. But you humans do not. You move to an area and you multiply and multiply until every natural resource is consumed and the only way you can survive is to spread to another area. There is another organism on this planet that follows the same pattern. Do you know what it is? A virus. Human beings are a disease, a cancer of this planet. You are a plague.
MORPHEUS All they needed to control us was something to occupy our mind.

Its the "opiate for the masses." (in the words of Karl Marx) There is plenty to choose from, those stupid shows you watch, or sports, or shopping, or whatever you do which distracts you from the truth of what they are doing... to you.. to the planet.

AGENT SMITH Do we have a deal, Mr. Reagan?

CYPHER .... After nine years, do you know what I've realized? Ignorance is bliss. I don't want to remember nothing. Nothing! You understand? And I want to be rich. Someone important. Like an actor. You can do that, right?

Similar to another Reagan we all know?

MORPHEUS For the longest time I wouldn't believe it, and then I saw the fields with my own eyes. Watch them liquefy the dead so they could be fed intravenously to the living. And standing there, facing the pure horrifying precision, I came to realize the obviousness of the truth. What is the matrix? Control.

Partly, this is symbolic of how we are pitted against each other in society. Literally, this is how factory farming is done in America, where the animals that die from cancers and diseases are literally ground and fed to the living animals, then consumed by us.

Last thoughts at the end of the Matrix
The One: I know you're out there. I can feel you now. I know that you're afraid. You're afraid of us. You're afraid of change. I don't know the future. I didn't come here to tell you how this is going to end. I came here to tell you how it's going to begin. I'm going to hang up this phone and then I'm going to show these people what you don't want them to see. I'm going to show them a world without you, a world without rules and controls, without borders or boundaries, a world where anything is possible. Where we go from there is a choice I leave to you.

After the last thoughts, the George Orwellian music begins, "Wake Up."

We are all in a prison for our mind, controlled by the corporate media, with the interest of using us as the "slaves" which supports the elite structure.

"The real rulers in Washington are invisible, and exercise power from behind the scenes." -Felix Frankfurter, justice of the U.S. Supreme Court 1939-1962

"We have operating within our government and political system, another body representing another form of government, a bureaucratic elite which believes our Constitution is outmoded... All the strange developments in foreign policy agreements may be traced to this group who are going to make us over to suit their pleasure... This political action group has its own local political support organizations, its own pressure groups, its own vested interests, its foothold within our government, and its own proganda apparatus." Senator William Jenner, February 23, 1954.

Boy Do not try to bend the spoon. That's impossible. Instead, try to realize the truth.

NEO What truth?

Boy There is no spoon.

NEO There is no spoon?

Boy Then you'll see that it is not the spoon that bends, it is only yourself.
